ANDEE'S Post: March 10-17!
I have finally made it to the blog! First of all so good to be back in touch with Lucy! And Laura, you too!
For me, Sunday feels more like the last day of the week, not the first--but no big deal as I didn't practice Sunday anyway--too busy with Mike's mum as it was Mother's Day here in the UK and we spent the day with her.
Monday was a total loss as I worked late, came home and cooked dinner and by the time we had eaten and the dishes were washed up it was after 9:00 and I was truly tired! I've been doing the job of two people for the last month at work and this is going to continue for another three weeks. I am both manager and assistant at my shop. When the new manager starts in three weeks I will have more time for the rest of life!
Tuesday (today) is my day off and I will be practicing off and on all day. Will post more later today with what I've practiced and my plans for the rest of the week.
Well, so far today I have worked on a few recently learned tunes: The Foggy Dew (and The Rights of Man), Amhran na Leabhar, and Were You at the Rock. I have reviewed George White's / Man of the House, Come West Along the Road / The Mountain Road.
As a result of looking at a youtube video Kathy posted I am now working on Mac Allistrum's March and putting in that cool descending bass line that the Belfast Harp Orchestra does. They also seem to drop out the C part which is good because for some reason I can't get that part to flow, so doing BHO style!
I now have the C part flowing OK (listened to a few other versions on youtube to help me along. Done for today, I think.
Wednesday I have practiced Mac Allistrum's March for 15 minutes before dinner. Now thinking of what to put it with. It's in 6/8 so a jig would work....
Practiced for 40 minutes after dinner; have paired MacAllistrum's up with Father O'Flynn (playing MacAllistrum's first in the set.)
Thursday I didn't practice at all. Hair appointment after work and then dinner--too tired! I was in bed by 9:30.\
I posted again at the bottom of your post this time..... the pencil should be right beside the "Posted by Andee at 12:46 am. One comment." - on my March 10-17 post it should say Posted by Hepzibah at .....am and X comments - then the pencil........
ReplyDeleteHmmmm. It appearas once there is a comment, the 'no comment' bit disappears altogether!
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like a very good day. I'll have to look for this You tube video of the March, it is a nice piece. I play Come West on the concertina but haven't tried that on the harp - session people play that one SO FAST!
ReplyDeleteKeep tinkering around to see if you can figure out how to post under the DID YOU etcetera slogan. I could just stick one up here too!
The video is on Kathy's youtube page or just search Mac Allistrum's march harp on youtube and it will come up.
ReplyDeleteDon't know if I'll figure out the right way to post without Mike helping me--when he's got the time. You can always move my post wherever.
There's also a youtube video of Michael Rooney playing Come West. I can actually play it faster than Mountain Road so must remember to take it a bit slower so they stay at the same pace.
Well, I'm going to try to chill a bit about how this is organized - this might be a very good way after all, that we write our intentions out for the week then, visitors can comment...... The reason I'm interested in organizing it by date is to make it easy to look back and see what 'we' were practicing at any given time. The main thing is to have it fit the right week. So on Sunday you would start a new post page?
ReplyDeleteI should add that it will automatically put your new post in a new week on Sunday --- I've set it up to organize itself by weeks.....
ReplyDeleteMcAllistrum's sounds wonderful and challenging....!
ReplyDeleteOK, I'll do a new post page on Sunday for next week. I'm leaving it to you to organize and move things around anyway you want--obviously it's not my forte!
ReplyDeleteMacAllistrum's is not hard at all--it just sounds hard!
It sure does sound hard. But I do know from experience that some easy sounding tunes are hard and vice versa.
ReplyDeleteI didn't do much better than you yesterday although I did work a bit on the double jigs. I hope your hair looks marvelous.
ReplyDeleteHair does look good, thanks! I get it professionally colored now as I have *tons* of grey! I was doing it myself for a while but due to some issues (found out I was very very anemic and also didn't have enough blood) loads of it fell out and now I let the pros take care of it. That was two years ago and it's all thick and healthy again now, plus my blood count and levels are back up. I take prescription strength iron twice a day now.
ReplyDeleteAh, yes, it happens. Here in VT no one does anything to their hair, fine with me. I'm glad they were able to help get your hair thick again. And that the iron made the diff.
